1. ´ To take something with a pinch of salt or a grain of salt´ significa ´com um pouco de desconfiança ou com ceticismo´
 Meaning: If you take something with a pinch of salt, you don´t believe that it is completely accurate or true
 
Ex. 1. Political parties make a lot of promises before elections but we should take them with a pinch of salt. / Os partidos políticos fazem muitas promessas antes das eleições, mas devemos ceitá-las com ceticismo. 

       2. She exaggerates everything she says, so I take whatever she says with a grain of salt. / Ela exagera em tudo o que diz, então eu considero tudo o que ela diz com ceticismo.

 
2. ´Catch 22´ significa  ´a situação absurda, impasse que é beco sem saída´
   Meaning: An impossible situation where you can´t do one thing until you do another thing, but you can´t do the second thing until you do the first thing.
   A situation where you can´t win and there will be undesired consequence no matter what you do.
 
Ex. 1. You can´t get a job without a work permit, but they won´t give you a work permit without a job. It´s catch 22!/ Você não consegue um emprego sem uma autorização de trabalho, mas eles não lhe dão uma autorização de trabalho sem emprego. É um impasse! 

2. I´ve lost the file. If I tell my boss, he´ll fire me and if I don´t he´ll find out anyway and fire me. I´m in a catch 22!/ Perdi o arquivo. Se eu contar para o meu chefe, ele vai me despedir e se eu não for ele vai descobrir e me despedir. Estou em  um beco sem saida!   !

3. ´ Blow your own trumpet ´ significa ´vangloria se´

Meaning: To tell everyone proudly about your achievements; to exaggerate your good qualities or show off
 
Ex. 1. No, I don´t want to meet Mary. She just keeps talking about how well she did all her projects and keeps blowing her own trumpet. / Não, não quero encontrar a Mary. Ela continua falando sobre o quão bem ela fez todos os seus projetos e continua vangloria-se demais.

  2. You need to be humble in your behaviour because if you keep blowing your own trumpet you may not get the job. / Você precisa ser humilde em seu comportamento, porque se continuar vangloria-se, talvez não consiga o emprego.

4.  ´To cut corners ´ significa ´ Tomar atalhos ou economizar  ´
Meaning: To skip certain steps to do something in the easiest, cheapest or fastest way possible – usually so that it detriments or affects negatively the finished product or end result.  A situation where you can´t win and there will be undesired consequence no matter what you do.

Ex. . 1. Don´t cut corners on this project – it has to be done thoroughly as it involves safety of the miners./Não corte atalhos neste projeto – tem que ser feito completamente, pois envolve segurança dos mineiros.

  2. The company cut corners in production and this led to loss in product quality. / A empresa fez economia na produção e isso levou à perda de qualidade do produto.
